He lived in China for seven years and returned to Stockton to complete his high school education at Stockton High School. After high school, Al enlisted and served two years in the United States Navy in Japan during World War II as an Electrician's Mate 3rd Class. Once he arrived back in the U.S., he relocated to San Francisco to attend and graduate from San Francisco City College. He then met his future wife, Mabel, at church. During his runs, he visited with many neighbors and strangers alike. Al was also a gifted writer. He wrote an autobiography containing many fascinating stories throughout his years. His imaginative and creative descriptions of major events in his life continue to captivate the spirit of the man he was. Al was a devoted family man who was extremely dedicated to his parents and family. He was a hard-working and honest person who earned the respect of his peers. Evelyn Jaquith

December 3rd, 1929 - June 2nd, 2018 With great sadness we announce the death of Evelyn Maxine Jaquith. She was born on December 3, 1925 in Sawyer, Kansas. She passed peacefully surrounded by family on June 2, 2018 in Sacramento, California.

Evelyn arrived in California with her family in 1935 escaping the Dust Bowl to start her dreams. She and her family settled in Greenwood, California. Her early years were spent washing dishes in the family restaurant and growing up in a close knit community.

Teaching was Evelyn’s passion. Her 31 year career began in a one room school house in Greenwood, California. Later she settled with her family in Stockton and taught for Stockton Unified School District for 23 years. Becoming a resource teacher for SUSD brought joy daily to Evelyn and her special needs students.

Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother. She and Vernon were supportive parents, grandparents, and great-grand parents. Nothing brought more joy to their lives than attending family activities and seeing the success of their family members. Evelyn and Vern built their cabin at Tahoe to give their family a place to make lasting memories.

Evelyn loved her Oakland A’s and attended her last game in April. Listening and watching the A’s, playing cribbage, gardening, camping, and traveling were activities enjoyed by Evelyn.

After retiring, Evelyn gave many community hours to the West Lane Oaks Neighborhood Resource Center. She was recognized during the Mayor’s All America City Beautification Awards Program on April 11, 2001. She was also honored by the Stockton Police Department on April 13, 2001 for being an All-Star Volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers, her loving husband Vernon and infant daughter Kristen. She is survived by her son Howard Jaquith, daughter Keeva Gwyn (James), four grandchildren Carrie Jaquith, Laurie Kubicek (Matt), Steve Jaquith (Lora) and John Gatschet (Ruby) and five great-grandchildren.

A private Celebration of Life to honor Evelyn will be held at a later date. Donations to honor the memory of Evelyn Jaquith can be made to the Children’s Home of Stockton, 430 N. Pilgrim Street, Stockton, California 95205

Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Jaquith family.

Diana Luna

February 27th, 1961 - June 1st, 2018 Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Luna family.

Diana Luna, a Stockton native, was a beloved mother and grandmother who lived a wonderful life among her family.  On Friday, June 1st 2018, aged 57, she lost a three-year battle with breast cancer at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  She was born on February 27th, 1961 in French Camp, CA to David and Evangelina (Cortez) Luna. She graduated from Franklin High School. Throughout her life, she held her family closest to her heart. She loved the company of her friends, siblings, children, and grandchildren and will be missed by her whole family.

Diana was one tough soul; her courage and bravery has touched us all.  Not many of us would have the heart to fight for strong health and life as she did for these past 36 years.  From To Kill a Mockingbird: “She was powerful, not because she wasn’t scared, but because she went on so strongly, despite the fear.”  While we will deeply miss Diana, we know she is whole once again and no longer in pain.  We miss and love her so much.

She is survived by her significant other, Hector Guerrero; her beloved dog, Oso; her children and grandchildren and many siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
