October 9, 1960–May 5, 2018 Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Ikeda family.
Patrick C. “Pat” Ikeda passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 5, 2018. He was born on October 9, 1960 in Berkeley, California, the first child of his proud parents Robert Kimihiko “Bob” and Gladys Lee Ikeda. Pat was raised in Stockton, California, where his family relocated when he was a toddler.
Pat attended Adams, Pulliam, Fair Oaks, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary Schools and Stockton Junior High before graduating from Edison High School in 1978. He earned a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego (Revelle College) in 1983, and went to work shortly thereafter with the Children’s Home of Stockton.
In 1984, he began a 33-year-long career as an appraiser with the San Joaquin County Assessor’s Office. He made many close and lasting friendships during his employment with the County and in his capacity as an officer and activist with the Service Employees’ International Union (SEIU).
Pat was active as a practitioner and instructor with the Stockton Judo Club for 47 years, and was recently promoted to 4th-degree black belt by the United States Judo Federation. He was also an avid and passionate skier and ski instructor, teaching at Kirkwood Mountain Resort for the last 18 winters, and he held a Level 1 designation and Children’s Specialist 1 certificate with the Professional Ski Instructors of America. Fishing was another of Pat’s favorite pastimes; he used his collection of fishing rods and reels eagerly and often during trout fishing excursions in the Sierras, striper fishing outings in the Delta, and salmon fishing trips on the Lower Sacramento River.
Pat was married for nearly 13 years to the love of his life, Terrilynne Harumi “Terri” Takeda (née Hazama), who survives him. He is also survived by his stepchildren Calvin and Samantha, as well as “Sami’s” partner Anthony Linnerman-Smith and their daughter Olivia; parents Bob and Gladys Ikeda; brother and sister-in-law Steve and Kathy Ikeda and their children Justin and Andrea; aunts and uncles Vivian Ko, Margaret and Ryo Kono, Noby and Susie Ikeda; numerous Ikeda and Lee cousins; many in-laws, nieces, and nephews from the Hazama family side; and dear family friend Susan Hok and her son Raiden, who will miss his “Jiichan.”
Pat was a caring and generous person whose sometimes goofy and offbeat sense of humor made him a beloved character among his friends, associates, and extended family. His loss has left a deep and unfillable hole in our family, and he will be forever loved and missed.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at SEIU Local 1021, 4226 Coronado Avenue, Stockton. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the memorial program begins at noon, with lunch to follow. Attire is strictly casual—Hawaiian, ski-themed, or t-shirts—in honor of Pat’s favorite wardrobe choices. Flip-flops are greatly encouraged. Please, no formal wear.
