Marian R. Freeman passed away on December 6, 2016, in Stockton at the age of 91. Marian was born in Illinois on August 13, 1925, and came to Stockton in 1954. Though she had no formal education beyond high school, she had a sharp mind and strived for excellence and continual learning. For 27 years she worked as a paralegal and office manager at the law offices of Blewett, Garretson & Hachman, where she was a valued asset. She was a contributor and co-editor for the Legal Secretaries Handbook, which became the “bible” for law offices statewide. It provided forms, instructions, and procedures to handle most legal actions. Marian was also active in local and state chapters of Legal Secretaries, Inc. After retirement, she continued to work on a freelance basis assisting with formation of assessment districts for infrastructure for new developments and improvement projects throughout Stockton and the surrounding area. Under her tutelage and example, two members of her support staff went on to become attorneys.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Freeman, and her daughter, Sharon Daugherty. She is survived by her beloved grandson, Andy Daugherty, whom she raised as her own after the death of her daughter; several siblings, and nieces and nephews in the Midwest; and dear friends, Tim and Judi Hachman.
