Robert (Bob) Minford, passed away on September 23, 2017. Bob was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 22, 1932 to Roy Irving and Velma Leona Minford. His family moved to Southern California in 1936. During World War II both of his parents worked in the aircraft industry. His family moved to Stockton in 1945, after the war. He graduated from Stockton High School in 1950; served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. Bob attended college at San Jose State and began his career as a firefighter. He retired from San Jose Fire Department after nearly 27 years of service. Bob was a student of life. He loved to read, learn, study religions, analyze and solve problems. His mind was always working. He described himself as a loner though he loved to go on long road trips throughout the State and Canada and talk to strangers along the way. After the passing of his wife, Jan, in 2013, Bob enjoyed life to the fullest with new found interests in walking 11-17 miles a day, climbing stairs and riding his recumbent bike with his best friend, Mary Isham. Bob was a very generous man, giving to what he called, his own charities, identifying people who needed a helping hand and ensuring their needs were met.
Bob is survived by his sister, Jeannine Railey of Morgan Hill, CA., brother Gerald Minford, daughters, Beth Minford of Santa Cruz, CA. and Terri Lynn Minford of Watsonville, CA, and step-children; Deborah Pell of Santa Clara, CA, Michael Rimington and his wife Lenette of Gresham, Oregon and Nicklas Rimington and his wife Lori of Vancouver, Washington. Bob was a wonderful grandfather to five; Derek Kruegar, Michael Rimington, Leah Rimington, Erin Barens, and Shannon Baily. Bob had five great grandchildren.
Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, Mary Isham, Beth and Terri Lynn Minford and Debbie Pell. In his last moments, he reminded us all that he had a very good life with no regrets.
