Harold "Lamar" Parrish

Harold "Lamar" Parrish left a legacy when he passed peace- fully on October 29, 2017 in the presence of his wife and children. Lamar was born in Llano, TX. to Theodore and Pauline Parrish on August 17, 1926. In 1930 the family moved to Stockton where Lamar attended Weber Elementary school and Stockton High School.

He enjoyed many class reunions with these classmates. He graduated from Stockton High in 1944 at the height of WW2 and joined the U.S. Navy. In the Navy he served as a Pharmacist's First Mate from 1944-46, one of the "Greatest Generation". He was able to express his love of music while singing in the Navy choir. After his service in the Navy he enrolled at the College of the Pacific. While at COP he met his sweet- heart, a young nurse-in-training, Ewela Mae Shelton at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center in 1949. Mount Hermon was to be foundational in their family history. Lamar and Lu married in 1950. Lamar became a licensed Clinical Medical Technologist in 1950. He worked for the State of California while also working as an entrepreneur to establish Parrish Medical Laboratory. He and Lu worked hand-in-hand to build the business. At this time he became a father to Susan and Kevin AND played enough GREAT basketball to be inducted into the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995 as a member of the YMCA teams of 1954-1957. Lamar was a charter member of the Society for the Preservation and Encour- agement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBQSA) in Stockton. He belonged to the group longer than any other member at the time of his pas- sing. Lamar sang with the Stockton Chorale for many years and served as it's presi- dent from 1985-87. Lamar served as Sunday School tea- cher and Church Chairman at Stockton Covenant Church for many years and was a member of Quail Lakes Baptist church. Lamar is survived by his wife, Lu, daughter Susan, son Kevin and daughter-in-law Jennifer; grandson Adam Rafalski and granddaughters Madeline and Georgia Mae Parrish.

In lieu of flowers you may honor Lamar's legacy with a gift to Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center, the Resident's Assistance Fund at O'Connor Woods or a charity of your choice.
