02/22/1922 - 12/21/2017 Yoneko Sakakuchi passed away peacefully on December 21, 2017.
She was born in 1922 in Concord, CA, the youngest child of Tora and Yasujiro Yamauchi.
Yoneko worked at Needham Elementary School and Claude C. Wood Construction Company before becoming secretary for Vinewood Elementary School. Affectionately known as “Mrs. Yo,” she was fondly remembered by principals, teachers and students.
After many years of working, Yoneko retired in 1990, giving her and husband Ted the opportunity to travel throughout the U.S. and around the world, including China and England.
A loyal San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan, she was thrilled to see both teams win multiple championships. She was generous to family and friends, volunteering her time or baking delicious goodies whenever needed. She loved to strike up conversations with strangers who would soon become lifelong friends.
Yoneko was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ted; brother George Yamauchi; sister Matsuko Honda; and brother-in-law Kiyoshi (K. Kincaid Saks) Sakakuchi. She is survived by son Wayne Sakakuchi, daughter-in-law Christine and grandson Jonathan; and daughter Gaye Rowley, son-in-law Mike and granddaughter Jordan. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
