December 6, 1940 - January 30, 2018 Janet Louise McDonald was born in Brawley, California on December 6, 1940. She was the firstborn of seven children to TR and Jenny McDonald. Janet received the Holy Ghost when she was eight years old. Her musical ability was soon apparent and she was playing the piano for church services by the time she was ten. During the 1960’s Janet wrote many songs, some of which are still sung today. Two of her most well-known are “This Holy Ghost is Genuine” and “I’ve Got the Holy Ghost.” At Christian Life Center in Stockton, she taught Sunday School, was active in the music department, and gave music lessons for many years.
Janet married James Jones in 1983, and God graciously blended their family, Jan with her two sons and James with his three daughters.
Jan worked for Valley Tow-Rite for ten years, and for San Joaquin County for 17 years, splitting time between Health and Human Services, the Registrar of Voters, and San Joaquin County Hospital. James and Jan served in the King’s Kids ministry at CLC, and led the First-and-Second Grade class for 14 years.
On January 30, 2018, Jan lost her battle with pancreatic cancer, and passed away peacefully at age 77.
Janet is survived by her husband of 34 years, James Jones, her sons Mark Morton (Farah), and Nathan Morton (Kristie), James’ daughters Rhonda Toy (Mike), Lisa Jordan, and Pam Woodard, siblings Joy Haney, Beverly Davies (Lew), John “Mackie” McDonald (Marilyn), Mary Wilson (Nathaniel), Julie Short, and their stepmother, Lois McDonald. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
