Evelyn Louise Egan, a resident of Temecula for the past twelve years and of Stockton, California, for the previous four decades, passed away on May 17, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was 92.
Evelyn was born in Silver City, New Mexico, on October 28, 1925. She was raised in California, attending local schools and graduating from Sacramento’s Grant Union High School in 1944. That year, she entered nurse's training at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco as a U.S. Cadet Nurse. After graduating in 1947, she spent the rest of her professional life caring for others as a Registered Nurse. In 1953, she proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force where she rose to the rank of Captain. After leaving the Air Force, she continued her nursing career with several organizations before joining St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton, where she worked for 15 years before retiring in 1985.
Evelyn had a wonderful sense of humor and great compassion for others. She loved traveling and camping and she was an avid gardener. She was active in numerous community service organizations including the Salvation Army Auxiliary, where she served as Chair of their League of Mercy. She was also a member of the the Laureates and of the American Legion Post #16.
She is survived by her children Terry Strombom (Bruce), and Patty Orlaski (Stan). She is also survived by her three grandchildren Emily Strombom, Josh and Zack Orlaski, and her brother Harry Wagner (Eleanor). She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard T. “Jerry” Egan, who passed in 1982.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor her life-long concern for those in need, the family requests that donations in Evelyn’s name be made to D.E.L.T.A. Rescue or the Salvation Army Stockton Corps.
