March 18, 1936 - October 14, 2021
Frederick Selin (Fred), 85, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2021. Fred was born March 18, 1936, in Chicago, IL. He was a graduate of Monrovia High School (1953), Bethel University, University of Minnesota, University of Pacific and studied at numerous other colleges and universities throughout the United States. Army veteran. Teacher of 35 years for Linden and Stockton Unified School Districts. Member of the Quail Lakes Baptist Church, Community Covenant Church of Scotts Valley, American Diabetes Association, University of Minnesota and University of Pacific Alumni Association, Pacific Volleyball and Basketball Boosters, American Legion Karl Ross Post 16, California Teachers Association, and The Gideon Society.
All that knew him can attest to his great love for faith, family, friends, college sports, education, and good food. He had a sweet tooth – soft and chewy Swedish sugar cookies, classic pecan pie, and two scoops of pralines and cream ice cream were favorites. He was also a member of the sourdough-bread bowl-savory soup-loving community. At first sight of a falling leaf, sourdough bread and hearty soup were always at the top of his mind. Fred also enjoyed traveling the world and learning about diverse cultures, art, growing aromatic flowers, and spending time at the family cabin in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He was an avid Minnesota Golden Goffers and UOP Pacific Tigers fan, volleyball and basketball season ticket holder, and was often found sitting center ice cheering on the local ice hockey team.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Norma Lee Selin, parents John and Freda Selin, brother Bernard Selin, and sister Marian Osborne. He is survived by his two sons Ronald (Ann) Ruf of El Cajon, CA, and Jonathan (Julie) Selin of Brentwood, CA. He will also be dearly missed by his four grandchildren, James Ruf of San Diego, CA, Colton Selin of Seattle, WA, Bethany Selin (Matthew) of Rochester, MN, Tanner Ruf of El Cajon, CA.
