Doris Virginia (Frey) Cavanaugh entered heaven 54 days before her 100th birthday. She lived a healthy and active life only to leave this earth due to natural causes. Born on Christmas Eve in 1921 at her parents home on East Pine Street in Lodi, she spent the next 99 years as a proud Lodian. Her parents, Fred and Salamena Frey, moved to a farm on Alpine Road outside Lodi while as a young child. This was her reason for such a great work ethic. Doris was a member of the Lodi High Class of 1939. She was proud of playing softball for the Flames. After high school she graduated with a B.S. Degree in nursing from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland. After returning to Lodi she worked as an RN for Drs. Mamie Pallesen and Warren Plowman collectively for 40 years (retiring in1985). Doris was married in 1949 to Joseph Cavanaugh who worked for PG&E. They enjoyed traveling throughout the world (China, Russia,Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Egypt and others) along with all areas of the United States. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joseph passed away in 1998 after 48 years of marriage. Once Joe was gone she spent more of her time reading (as she was an avid reader), enjoyed playing her piano and maintaining her daily walks up until her passing. Doris was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic church and Daughters of Isabella. She volunteered for years as a Pink Lady at Lodi Memorial Hospital. If you were interested in any historical fact about Lodi she knew who, what, when, where, and why in regards to that question and had evidence to back her up. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; and her siblings, Esther Frey, Leslie Frey (Kathleen), Evelyn Surran (Ralph), Ruby Lehr (Bob), Nadine Gilstrap (Jim), and Laverne Gantner (Bob). She is survived by her brother, Derald Frey (June); son, Paul Cavanaugh (Kathleen); daughter, Clare Woznick (Rod); six grandchildren, Lisa Kunst (Tyson), A’ine Kosko (John), Scott Woznick, Mark Cavanaugh (Jeannine), Laura Woznick, and Maura Cavanaugh; along with 12 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dan Gormley and Arbor Senior Living for all their kindness over the past 5 years; giving Doris the ability to live independently and the freedom to live her life as she pleased. The last couple days of her life she was supported by Seva Hospice who made the transition from her life on Earth to heaven more peaceful. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seva Hospice 5330 Pirrone Road, Suite 303, Salida, CA 95368. At her request, Cherokee Memorial is assisting in a private graveside service.
