Inez Hernandez

January 21, 1936 - February 04, 2021

Inez Hernandez, 85, on February 4, 2021 died peacefully with her husband Enrique and daughter Yolanda by her side. Inez was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, Tia and Nina. She will be forever loved and missed by those fortunate to have known her wisdom, kindness, generosity and love.

She was born on January 21, 1936 in Crystal City, Texas and in 1955 her family moved to Stockton, California to be reunited with their relatives, the Cumpian family and her oldest brother, Andres who lived nearby. She married her husband, Enrique Hernandez on December 7, 1958. Their good life together centered around caring for family, loved ones and their home. A visit to the Hernandez home meant Inez would always provide a delicious meal with homemade tortillas. She worked seasonally for many years at Tillie Lewis Cannery. She resided in Stockton for the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Ortiz Arenas; father, Pedro Arenas; her 5 siblings, Andy Arenas, Jose Arenas, Manuel Arenas, Daniel Arenas, Socorro Noyola; and her beloved niece, Elena Noyola-Long.

Inez is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Enrique Hernandez; her daughter, Yolanda Bernasconi and son-in-law Ron; her son, Hank Hernandez; grandson, Michael Bernasconi, his wife Carmen and 2 beloved great grandchildren, Lilliana Cortez-Job and Camilla Inez Bernasconi. Family that she loved and considered as her grandchildren were Monica Long Neri, husband Tom, (children, William and Julian Neri), Marina Long and Bobby Long. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. Lifelong best friends she adored were Helen McCullough and Mary Alvarez.

We thank Inez's caregivers, Sara and Vicky who provided loving and devoted care during her last 6 months. Also, thank you to Hospice of San Joaquin for their expert and compassionate care.
