Chester George

February 27, 1934 ~ September 1, 2023

Chester George, 89, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023, when he and his late wife, Alice Rosemary “Rose” George, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Chester was born on February 27, 1934, to Elias James and Stella Maisie George in Heart’s Content, Newfoundland, Canada. He worked at the Heart’s Content Cable Station after high school graduation. After moving to San Francisco in 1965, he had a distinguished career in communications for almost 50 years.  

Chester was a beloved father, husband, son, brother, and friend to many. He touched the lives of those around him with his devotion, compassion, honesty, and wisdom; his memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

He is survived by sons Perry, Chester “Paul” (Nicole), and Darron (Irma) and family; grandchildren Miriam (Chris), Jacquelyn, Matthew, Naomi (Steven), and Brandon; great-grandchildren Nathaniel, James, Noah, Travis, William, and Noelle; siblings Elizabeth (John), Graham “Bud” (Beverly), Jerry (Michael), Derek (Jeanine), Lynn; In-laws Kenneth (Winnie), Mervyn (Frederica), Gordon (Violet), Rona, Claudette “Coady,” Basil “Bas,” Harry, and Cyril; close friends Jeannie, Roy, Agnes, Corrine, Colleen, Claire, Romain, Marilyn, Jack, Eleanor, Shirley, John “Johnny Boy,” Dianna, Wendy, Kim, Pam, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and countless friends.

Chester was predeceased by his wife, parents, brother Jim, sisters Judy and Shirley, grandson Michael, and many in-laws.

Chester led a fulfilling life characterized by dedication and service to the Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist and his role as a Freemason. He will be remembered for his hours on the golf course and at the fitness center working out and the many lectures and sound advice he gave, which left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 1055 S. Lower Sacramento Rd. Lodi, CA 95242. The graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park, Highway 99, and Harney Lane, Lodi, CA 95240. After the committal, a reception will follow back at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist. All who wish to pay their respects are welcome to attend. Chester George will live forever in our hearts and minds, and his legacy will continue through his shared love and memories.
