Vernon McTeer

July 15, 1930 - June 20, 2018 Don McTeer, 87, passed away in Hudson, Florida after suffering a major stroke. He was born literally on the steps of San Joaquin Hospital (his father had run out of gas on the way) to Vern and Fern McTeer and raised in Stockton, CA. then retiring to Hudson, Florida in 1998. He co-owned Valley Stucco & Putty Plant with his 2 brothers, Jim & Bob McTeer. He was preceded in death by siblings Edith Coy and Jim McTeer. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon McTeer, 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, siblings Bob McTeer and Irene Hunt.

He was president of the Amblers Club and the Delta Rotary Club; a member of the Lodi Twirlers Square Dancers and Stockton Moose Club. The simple things in life made him happy; connecting with people, taking family camping, water skiing, long drives - always taking the road less traveled. Determined to see America he and Sharon traveled over 22,000 miles their first trip around the US. He was a history buff visiting historical sites everywhere.

He knew no strangers, always asking "Where ya from?" or "Need some help?" never passing anyone stranded on the road while traveling.

While working full time, he and Sharon fostered several teens and then high-risk babies, hoping to give them a better life. He even took a dump truck to the Sierras, filled it with snow and brought it back to Mary Graham Children's Center. After retiring, they volunteered at San Lorenzo Park, CA, then were Lighthouse docents in Ilwaco, WA. For the last 17 years they were volunteers at the Food Bank, Ad Litem, and Bayonet Point Hospital, FL. In his 80's, with arthritic hands, he quilted blankets for his grandchildren and great-grands making more than 27. He wanted us to remember him; including making all of us family photo CD's starting when we were babies. Surviving children are Candy Mendoza (Dave), Kathy Ogren (Tim), Debbie Wells (Dan), Carol Day (Bill), and Byron Day (Muriel). Grandchildren Mike Pengilly, Jr. (Marnie), Chris Pengilly (Kim), Sean Pengilly (Stephanie), Robert Ogren (Kristi), Kelly Mendoza (Arvin), Jennifer Ogren, Teri Salter (Alan), Keith Wells (Breana), and Krista Clark (Jeff).

It meant everything to him to have a purposeful life. He was the pillar that kept our blended families together. Always one to lend a helping hand, tell a funny story, or make a long story longer, he will be deeply missed.
