Evelyn Louise Egan

Evelyn Louise Egan, a resident of Temecula for the past twelve years and of Stockton, California, for the previous four decades, passed away on May 17, 2018, surrounded by her family.  She was 92.

Evelyn was born in Silver City, New Mexico, on October 28, 1925.  She was raised in California, attending local schools and graduating from Sacramento’s Grant Union High School in 1944.  That year, she entered nurse's training at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco as a U.S. Cadet Nurse.  After graduating in 1947, she spent the rest of her professional life caring for others as a Registered Nurse. In 1953, she proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force where she rose to the rank of Captain.  After leaving the Air Force, she continued her nursing career with several organizations before joining St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton, where she worked for 15 years before retiring in 1985.

Evelyn had a wonderful sense of humor and great compassion for others.  She loved traveling and camping and she was an avid gardener.  She was active in numerous community service organizations including the Salvation Army Auxiliary, where she served as Chair of their League of Mercy.  She was also a member of the the Laureates and of the American Legion Post #16.

She is survived by her children Terry Strombom (Bruce), and Patty Orlaski (Stan).  She is also survived by her three grandchildren Emily Strombom, Josh and Zack Orlaski, and her brother Harry Wagner (Eleanor). She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard T. “Jerry” Egan, who passed in 1982.

In lieu of flowers, and to honor her life-long concern for those in need, the family requests that donations in Evelyn’s name be made to D.E.L.T.A. Rescue or the Salvation Army Stockton Corps.

Private graveside services will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane in Lodi, California.

INTERMENT

Interment will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane in Lodi, California.

James Watkins

October 4, 1929 - May 16, 2018

James Charles Watkins, age 88 passed away on May 16, 2018. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John and Virginia Watkins, James lived a long and productive life. At age 18 he began his military career with the U.S. Army where he proudly and honorably served for 20 years. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army, James started working for the U.S. Post Office for 18 years. In 1952, while stationed in Japan, James married Yoshiko and they were married for 65 years until her passing in 2017. Their marriage produced 4 children: Ellen, Susan (Mark), Thomas (Jan), and Donald (Merlin). James is also survived by 6 brothers, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. In his life, James was an unparalleled stamp collector, avid reader, and fan of Jeopardy. He will always be remembered for his honesty, quick wit and generosity to all. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Evergreen chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 at E. Harney Lane, Lodi.

Daniel Burgdorf

Daniel Burgdorf entered into rest in Stockton, CA on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at home with his family by his side.  He was 57 years old.  He was born in Fresno, CA.  He was a devoted husband of 37 years to his wife Debbie Burgdorf and beloved father to Susan Heuer.  He was blessed with one granddaughter Stella Heuer.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, being a grandpa, going fishing, and working on watches.  He was a humble man with a contagious smile that will be missed by those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace Burgdorf and Sylvania Burgdorf.  He is survived by his wife, Debbie Burgdorf, daughter Susan Heuer, granddaughter Stella Heuer, brother Donald Burgdorf, sisters Cheryl Burgdorf, Kelly DeBinder, and Angeline Brewer.

Loralee Thompson

April 14, 1937 - May 11, 2018 Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Thompson family.

Loralee Huber Thompson, longtime resident of Lodi and Stockton, passed away on May 11th, 2018.

Loralee was born in Thatcher, Arizona and grew up in Mesa, Arizona.  She graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Home Economics.  Her first teaching position took her to Stockton, California where she met and married Thomas Paul Thompson from Peterson, Utah.  After teaching 3 years, Loralee left teaching to raise and nurture her 5 children.  Loralee was a life-long member and actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in a variety of callings.    Once her children were all in school, she was a substitute teacher in the Lodi Unified School District and ended her 20-year career teaching home economics at Morada Middle School.  Since her retirement, she has spent time traveling and with family and friends.  She has also been an active docent at the SJ County Historical Museum.

Loralee is survived by her 5 children: Sheryl, Bruce (Elisa), Scott (Jodi), Loriann, and Brian (Becky); 16 grandchildren:  Steve (Heather), Laura (Jeff), Richard (Rachelle), Jordan, Madeline, Camille, Cassie, Ryan, Collin, Kara, Brooke, Tucker, Bethani, Russell, Shane, and Owen; and 7 great-grandchildren:  Holly, Kayla, Connor, Addison, Olivia, Nathan, and Andrew.

Loralee was preceded in death by her husband and by her parents, Waldo & Ida Huber.  She is survived by her siblings:  Paul Huber  (Shirlene), Carol Dana, and Mary Martin (Dennis).

She was an incredible person, a talented cook, baker, seamstress, homemaker, teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, and more.  She will be truly missed.

Loralee will be laid to rest following the services at Cherokee Memorial Park.

Ruben Rodriguez

Ruben Vicente Rodriguez, Jr, of Lodi, passed away unexpectedly the night of May 11th, 2018 at the young age of 31. He was born August 24, 1986 in Lodi to Doreen Ann Rodriguez (Wood) and Ruben Vicente Rodriguez. He was the eldest of 3 children for his mom and 4 kids for his dad. Ruben was an avid Raiders fan and lived a fruitful life. He was a son, brother, uncle, godfather, nephew, cousin and a dear friend to many. He loved dancing, singing, spending time with family and friends and going to Raiders games. Ruben was a hard working man who often provided comedic relief and was loved by all who knew him. Whether it was helping a complete stranger or offering support to a friend or relative through difficult times, he had a very kind heart. With a charismatic personality, contagious laughter and radiant smile, he was always the life of the party. Summers were spent barbecuing, camping, swimming, going on road trips, spending time with friends and family and was always a welcomed guest at all sorts of events from birthday parties to weddings, he always seemed to light up the room. Although his life was short lived, it was well lived. He loved with all his heart and despite having no children, he enjoyed being around kids and playing with them. Family was always important to him and reflected in the way he lived his life. Stella Rodriguez, a paternal aunt, played a significant role in his upbringing. He is survived by both of his parents, paternal grandparents Eva and Vicente Rodriguez, stepmother Nina Rodriguez, brothers Matthew Rodriguez and Gabriel Rodriguez, sister-in-law Mayra Rodriguez, niece Giselle and nephew Ezra, half sister Hannah Rodriguez as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and countless friends. He will proceeded in death by his maternal grandma Mary Ellen Hobson. There will be a public viewing Sunday, May 20th from 2-8pm at Cherokee Memorial Park in the Vineyard Chapel. Services will be held Monday, May 21st at the same location at 10am with burial immediately after. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Moose Lodge located at 3824 E. Woodbridge Rd off Highway 99.
