Mildred Louise DeWitt passed away at the age of 96 on September 18, 2015. She was born in Tolar, Texas to Henry and Maggie Neely on March 23, 1919. Mildred attended John Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas and North Texas State University in Denton, Texas where she received her Bachelors Degree. Mildred taught school for a number of years before marrying her true love, Floyd Thomas DeWitt on September 10, 1948. They spent 27 wonderful years together until he passed away March 22, 1975. They relocated to Stockton where they began their life together. Mildred enjoyed caring and raising her children. She later returned to the workforce in 1968 when her husband became ill. She taught for Stockton Unified School District, San Joaquin Delta College and Sharpe Army Depot. Mildred retired in November of 1982 and dedicated the rest of her life to being there for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Floyd Thomas DeWitt, parents Henry Clark Neely, Sr. and Maggie Deering Neely, son Lloyd Keith DeWitt, brother H.C. (Clark) Neely, Jr., sister Maxine (Neely) Yetter, brother Windell Neely, and brother James Neely. She leaves behind her daughter Verna “Louise” Williams (Larry), grand daughters: Heather Dawn Kraft (Greg) and Kimberlee BreAnne Williams, great-grandchildren: Bethany Marie, Ryan Joseph, and Adam Thomas Kraft and Rylee Marie Elias. She also leaves behind her brother Othel Neely (Mary Ruth) of Waco, TX, brother Garnet Neely of Huntsville, AL and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service at 11am Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in the Garden of Hymns at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 & Harney Ln., Lodi. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the DeWitt Family.
