Rowland Hal Cheney, 71, was killed in a plane crash while living a grand adventure in Ketchikan, Alaska. Rowland was born in Utah on August 8,1943 to Hal and Frances Cheney. Rowland was educated in California at California State University, Chico, and attained a MFA from U.C. Berkeley. Rowland spent his working career as an Art Instructor at San Joaquin Delta College where he passed on his passion for Art to his students. Rowland was known publically for his monumental bronze sculptures and other works of fine Art for the Cities of Lodi, Tracy, Dublin, Stockton, and San Joaquin County, as well as entities such as Micke Grove Park and Zoo, to name a few. Rowland also ventured into the corporate world and produced original sculptures for Breyer Company’s worldwide market. Rowland had a heart for God and will be remembered for his love and commitment to his family, his friends, his Kiger Mustangs, his spiritually motivated artwork, and his many students. Rowland was the “Rock” of his family and he will be greatly missed.
Rowland is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Cheney, his father Hal Cheney, and sister Mary Dreher. Rowland is survived by his four children, Marin Whitaker, Zachary Cheney, Jessica Watson, and Joshua Cheney, as well as his two sisters, Lillian Brown and Jennifer Trost, and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Bethel Open Bible Church, 760 S. Ham Ln., Lodi, CA.
