Leona Miller

Miller 07/12/1922 – 01/22/2016

Leona Miller, 93, of Lodi, passed away January 22, 2016. Born July 12, 1922 in Wishek, North Dakota to Christian and Katherina Walth, she graduated from Wishek High School in 1940, and earned her Nursing degree from Alexius Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. Leona married Albert Miller on June 27, 1944, and followed him to his duty station in Newfoundland for his service in World War II. After returning to Wishek, her son, Donald, was born in 1946. Leona and Albert lived briefly in Havre, Montana, before following her German relatives to Lodi in 1954. She worked for many years at Lodi Memorial Hospital before being recruited by Dr. George Williams for his private practice. Later, she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton before retiring in 1974. Leona continued her work, however, volunteering in the pharmacy at Lodi Memorial Hospital.

She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church until moving to O’Connor Woods in 2003. Leona was an avid needle pointer, crocheter, and knitter until her eyesight failed her. At O’Conner woods she was known as the Orchid Lady, for her love of the flower and ability to make them blossom.

Leona is survived by her son, Don (Linda) Miller, grandson Doug (Lisa) Miller, and great grandchildren, Zoey and Zachariah Miller.

Her husband, Albert Miller, and her parents precede her in passing.
