Stockton native Jessie G. Hannay passed away at home on November 28, 2020, two months after her 100th birthday.

Jessie was born and raised in Stockton, where she received a BA in Education from College of the Pacific and embarked upon a career as an elementary school teacher.  She later earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Columbia University and taught in both San Francisco and Daly City.  At her home at Plymouth Square in Stockton, Jessie (a life-long Methodist) enjoyed playing the piano for religious services.  Jessie was a big fan of pets, especially cats.  She had pets almost all her life, and her cat “Dickens” was instrumental in encouraging Jessie to recover from illness several years ago.  Jessie was the much beloved Best Aunt Ever to her five nieces, who certainly knew how lucky they were to have her.  She (all by herself) even braved taking all five of them to Disneyland when they were young children.  What aunt would take that on!  Jessie was recently honored when her great-grandnephew was named after her: Lucas Jesse McCray.  Jessie couldn’t have been prouder.  She was an absolutely wonderful woman who was cherished by many!  She will be missed.

Jessie is survived by her five nieces Kathryn Hannay (husband Tom McCray), Adriane Antonelli (husband Robert), Dustyn, Anne Cammack (husband Michael) and Alison Grey (husband Roger), as well as by her 7 great- and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Hannay Family.
