Marion Peters

September 20, 1929 - December 12, 2022

Marion J. Peters passed away peacefully on December 12, 2022, in the presence of her four children. She was born on September 20, 1929, in Kerman, California to James and Ruth Johnson. Marion attended Fresno State College graduating with a Home Economics degree in 1952. She moved to Coalinga, California to start her teaching career at Coalinga Junior High School. One year later she met the love of her life, Louis Peters. They were married on November 20, 1954, and soon started a family. Marion left teaching in 1957 to focus on raising her growing family. In 1969 she and Lou moved their family to Stockton where Lou became a counselor at San Joaquin Delta College. As their youngest child entered junior high school, Marion resumed her teaching at Sture Larson Continuation School where she taught Early Childhood Development and Home Economics. Never one to accept the status quo, she expanded the Home Economics curriculum to include a food service program, creating lunch-ins for invited guests and special events. Her classes also produced a recipe book which was updated many times. In retirement Marion lived a happy and active life making sure she got to travel with Lou and spend plenty of time with her family and friends. Active in charity, Marion spent many days helping out the Assistance League of Stockton. One of her favorite things was to auction off fine dinners with a group of friends dubbed the Gourmet Chicks. Truly a gourmet cook, Marion’s apple pie recipe was picked up by the Associated Press for national recognition. Marion was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lou. She is survived by her son Mark and wife Michele and children Christine and Eric, her daughter Maggie Lujan and husband Steve and children Matthew, Callan and Mathew’s wife Candyce, her son Matt and wife Cilla and children, Andrew, Christopher, Samantha and Andrew’s wife Bin and children Kai and Jay, and her son Martin and wife Heather and children Lucas, Riley and Hannah. Marion is also survived by her sisters, Doris Voice of San Mateo and Marilyn Allred of Cloverdale.

A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held on Tuesday, December 27, at 12:00 noon at Elkhorn Golf Club in Stockton (1050 Elkhorn Dr, Stockton, CA). The family will have a private family interment at Cherokee Memorial Park earlier that morning.
