October 27, 1931 - September 8, 2022
Our beloved mother, Joan E. Lucas, passed away at the age of 90 on September 8, 2022 at her home in Lodi, California. Joan was born on October 27, 1931 in Hollywood, California. She had an interesting life growing up for part of her childhood in Carcross, in the Yukon territory of Canada. Her family owned the Caribou Inn, where she lived until high school. We loved hearing her stories of living there and what they did for education and fun. She loved animals, and they loved her back. She enjoyed just sitting with animals and loving them. They knew they had found a protector in her.
Joan moved to Lodi in 1961 with her husband and children where she lived for over 60 years. During this time, she was always dedicated to her family; they were a priority in her life. She and her husband were a part of the Norwegian club, as well as several other clubs. They loved to dance and be with friends.
She worked for 18 years for Claude C. Woods as a payroll clerk. She was also a talented artist and did several oil paintings, then switched to Tole and Country wood painting. She painted, and Dad cut the wood patterns for her to use. They did amazing work together.
Joan is survived in death by her son Richard Glenn Lucas and his spouse, Lisa, and by her daughter Lorrie Harper, her grandchildren Tarina Taylor and David Lucas and her 7 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard L. Lucas, her son Scott D. Lucas, her brother Don Corby, and her cousin (who was more like a sister), Caroline Downes. Joan will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial on September 26th at 10:00am.

Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Lucas family.
