March 22, 1944 - October 31, 2023
Jerry Robert Tyson passed from this earth and to his forever home on October 31, 2023. He had been struggling with COPD and eventually developed lung cancer. He was 79 years old.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Anne “Claire”, his daughter Melissa L Wheelhouse, son-in-law Thomas Wheelhouse, granddaughters Julia Byrd (Chaz) and Emma Byrd, and great-grandchildren Gracelynn Byrd and Gideon Thruston. He was proud to be part of his larger family; Carl Blicharz (Kat), Mike Blicharz, Paul Blicharz, David Blicharz, Terry Blicharz, Nina Chandler, and Mark Blicharz (passed).
He is preceded in death by his sister Romona Olvera and grandmother, Julia Pickens.
Jerry would often tell stories of his childhood in Indiana with his beloved grandmother. He was proud of his service in the Navy. He would talk of the beautiful landscapes he came across while serving in Alaska. An avid photographer, Jerry loved being on the sidelines of sporting and current events. In addition to providing private photography, he worked for the local newspapers and would run out on calls for crime and traffic events. He was always eager to collaborate or mentor colleagues and friends. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. Besides photography and family, Jerry also enjoyed woodworking, gardening his succulents, and watching birds and other wildlife. Jerry was a deeply caring soul, strong in faith, who prided himself on being there for friends and family. Jerry adored his family and devoted much of his time to his daughter and granddaughters, “the girls” and enjoyed every minute with his great-grandchildren.
