Lodi Soldiers Win Bronze Star Medals For Heroism
Pfc Joe E. Ramos, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ramos, Sr., 474 Murray St., received the Army’s Bronze Star Medal recently for “heroism in connection with operations against a hostile force.”
Pfc Ramos has been stationed in Vietnam since April 9, 1970.
“He distinguished himself as a tank loader,” as stated by the military citation, “on an assault vehicle during a blocking force mission.”
When the platoon suddenly came under intense barrage of fire, Ramos reacted immediately exposed himself to enemy fire to resupply the foxhole positions with needed materials and ammunition.”
Ramos, has been in the service since August 22, 1969. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1968. He recently was promoted to Spec. 4 as a result of his service in the Vietnam combat zone.
Son of Joe and Eleanor Ramos, Two brothers Gilbert and Richard Ramos, Two nieces Charlinia Carlson, Arianna Ramos, Two nephews Jamie Ramos and Ryan Ramos (USAF). He was employed by Gerose Reed at Clement, CA. He enjoyed playing golf, umpiring softball and basketball.
