Doris M. Hanson
April 5, 1929 – August 9, 2023
Doris went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 9, 2023, reunited with her beloved husband Tom and daughter Lori. We were blessed beyond words to have had her with us for 94 years. Doris was born in White Lake, SD and was the youngest of 6 children to Lawrence and Alta Getty. She attended school in White Lake and enjoyed cheerleading and singing in the school choir. Doris continued her education at a Business College Rapid City, SD. This led her to manage the school house in her town and teach for 3 years.
Who knew the love of her life, Tom lived right down the street from her growing up. They dated for about 8 years enjoying ice skating, going to the movies, and dancing every Friday night, and boy could they dance! Tom and Doris married in 1951 and had 4 children: Deb, Lori, Greg, and Steve. After moving to Lodi, Ca they completed their family with their 5th child, Tricia.
In addition to teaching, Doris was a bookkeeper and homemaker, keeping a clean and well fed household. She took a job as Purchasing Agent at Pacific Coast Producers which she did for over 30 years. Doris had many talents and passions. She taught herself to sew, making school clothes for her children including her daughter’s prom dresses. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing the piano, crocheting, knitting, making many baby blankets, hats, and scarfs. Her love for baseball, basketball, and all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities was a big part of her life. Doris was a remarkable woman whose legacy of love and selflessness will forever inspire us.
