Eleanor Jane (Katzakian) Kundert passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, with her daughters by her side, on October 6, 2024, at the age of 91. A lifelong resident of Lodi, she was born June 4, 1933 to Thomas and Susie (Goorigian) Katzakian, joining a large Armenian immigrant family. She grew up at the corner of Harney Lane and Lower Sacramento Road, where her father operated Tommy’s Corner service station and store. She attended Henderson School and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1951.
She attended Stockton College and then married Donald Paul Kundert on June 19, 1954, at Zion Reformed Church in Lodi, where they established their home and raised their three daughters, Pam, Kim, and Kelly. Eleanor was a homemaker and also taught piano lessons during the 1950’s and ‘60’s. During the 1970’s she worked at M. Newfield and Sons furniture store in downtown Lodi.
Eleanor was a member of Temple Baptist Church (GracePoint), singing in the choir and attending various Bible study classes. Having a strong appreciation for the arts, she was a former member of the Lodi Arts Commission, enjoyed playing the piano and painting. She was a longtime member of Woodbridge Golf and Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf with her friends and was past captain of the 9 Hole and 18 Hole groups. She was a member and past president of the Marc Club, a member of the Omega Nu, and enjoyed playing bridge.
Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Theodore “Ted” Katzakian.
She is survived by her three daughters, Pam Squires of Sacramento, Kim Kundert (Greg Mahoney), and Kelly (David) Nuss, all of Lodi, along with eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 18, 2024, in the chapel of First Baptist Church, 267 N. Mills Ave., Lodi.
