Charles McClerkin

September 8, 1946 - December 13, 2024

Charles Edward McClerkin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Lodi community, passed away peacefully at home on December 13, 2024, at the age of 78. His final days were spent surrounded by his devoted family, following a brief but courageous battle with an aggressive cancer.

Charlie was born on September 8, 1946, in Jackson, Tennessee, to Lonnie and Winifred McClerkin. As a young child, he moved to California, where he spent his formative years in Rio Vista. In July of 1966, Charlie was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country with honor until his discharge in 1968.

After his military service, Charlie worked alongside his father at the Roadway Garage in San Jose, California. During this time, he met the love of his life, Susan Sanders, in October of 1972. The two were married on April 7, 1973, in Lodi, California, where they settled and built their life together.

In 1973, Charlie began a lifelong career in the insurance industry, dedicating himself to serving the senior community of Lodi with integrity and compassion. In 1979, he founded McClerkin Insurance Services, earning the trust and respect of countless clients over the course of his 52-year career.

Charlie’s commitment to his faith and community was unwavering. A devoted member of Century Assembly Church, he served on the church board and the school board of Century Christian School for many years. Known for his kindness and steady presence, he also served as the head usher, ensuring every congregant felt welcomed and cared for.

Charlie’s passions included hunting trips with close friends, boating and fishing on our boat, the Delta Blue II, as well as bowling. Charlie also cherished spending his mornings at the Village Coffee Shop with friends, engaging in lively conversations and enjoying the camaraderie of his community.

Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his wife Susan, embarking on long drives, adventures across the country in their RV, exploring other countries and creating cherished memories with his seven grandchildren. His love for his family was profound, and he poured his heart into every moment spent with them.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie McClerkin and Winifred Jordan; three sisters; seven brothers; and his two sons, Brandon McClerkin and Shaun McClerkin.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Susan McClerkin; his daughter, Jennifer Murphey (Brian); his son, Sean McClerkin; and his beloved grandchildren: Hudson McClerkin, Judah McClerkin, McKenzie Murphey, Max Murphey, Miles Murphey, Ryer McClerkin, and Maverick Murphey. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will deeply miss his warm presence and kind heart.

Charlie’s legacy is one of unwavering love, faith, and service. While his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his family finds comfort in their faith, trusting they will one day be reunited.
