May 17, 1934 - February 8, 2024
Florence Beulah Overmier went to be with The Lord on February 8th, 2024, after 89 magnificent years of life. Lovingly known as 'Mama' and 'Grandma O', she was cherished and adored by her beloved family and after a brief illness, passed peacefully in her sleep near her home in Lodi, California.
Mama was born to Elliott and Margaret Carlton in New Orleans, Louisiana, the oldest of 11 siblings, 9 boys and 2 girls on May 17th 1934. She is survived by her sister and best friend Rita, and brothers Donald and Patrick.
Carl Watson Overmier took her hand in marriage on December 30th 1952 and together they raised 5 children, Carl Jr., Clifford, Charles, Peggie, and Clyde. Moving from Louisiana to California, and settling in San Andreas, the children were raised with love and devotion and taught the values of hard work, commitment to family, and integrity with others.
Florence loved her children 'firmly and fairly' with sage and often poignant advice while also showering them with constant prayer, delicious meals, and flawless handmade crocheted, embroidered, cross-stitched, and ceramic works of art that will be enjoyed by generations to come. As if raising 5 kids wasn't enough, she also managed to have a career with Sutter Memorial Care Facility as a Dietician. It was there she modeled her strong work ethic and consistently produced nutritional and delicious meals to the residents, while also gaining the respect and admiration of her kitchen and service staff.
Mama was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Carl W. Overmier Sr. and her middle child Charles. Her legacy will live on through her 4 remaining children, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Florence will be placed to rest with Carl Sr. at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, and in early summer, there will be a family celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Anne's Catholic Church in Lodi, California are appreciated.
