January 17, 1939 - March 26, 2024
Barbara Ann Ventry, 85, formerly of San Jose and Lincoln, California, passed away from a long illness surrounded by family on March 26, 2024. Devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara was born on January 17, 1939 in Redding, California. She and her older sister, Arlene, were raised by their grandmother, Ada Davison, in Brighton, Colorado, when Barbara was in second grade. She attended school in Brighton and had numerous friends, to include her lifelong best friend, Judy, and played many sports.
Barbara attended Idaho State University in 1958 and majored in English. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa sorority, played inter mural sports and was voted cheer queen. There she met the love of her life, John Ventry, and they married at St. John Vianney Church on Easter Sunday, April 2nd, 1961 in San Jose, California. Barbara was a loving mother to her daughters, Kathy and Nancy. She was a Bluebird and Campfire Girls troop leader who brought her creativity to many fun and thoughtful projects.
Barbara's notable caring and kindness extended to her work with students as an instructional aide in special education for 20 years. She was a strong woman of faith and volunteered in various ministries at Lincoln Community Church. She nurtured friendships and family relationships with unfathomable understanding, love and kindness. In spite of living with chronic pain, she maintained an adventurous spirit and a giving and positive attitude. Ever gracious, she was loved and respected by all who were blessed to know her. Barbara is survived by her devoted and faithful husband of 63 years, John, her sister, Arlene Housmyer, her daughter Kathy, daughter Nancy (Gonzalez), son-in-law Jorge Gonzalez, and grandchildren Marissa and Christian Gonzalez. Barbara touched many lives and we will cherish every memory.
