Edward “Ed” Degenstein passed away on April 16th,2025 peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 95. Edward and his loving wife Marge of 63 years are now reunited in Heaven.
Born January 23rd , 1930, to Peter and Margaret Degenstein in Drake, North Dakota, where he grew up on the family farm with his seven brothers and sisters. In 1951, Ed joined the United States Army from 1951-1953. After coming back home, Ed married the love of his life, Marge in 1954 in North Dakota and started their journey together before moving to Fremont, California in 1959 where they planted their roots and soon started their family. Ed started his career at General Motors and then retired from New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) in Fremont. During his time in Fremont, Ed was actively involved in his children’s activities as a board member and coach for baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball where he made a lasting impression with his kind soul and loving demeanor that impacted all those he met.
Ed and Marge moved to Lodi, CA in 1993 where they spent their golden years travelling and establishing themselves at St Anne’s church. Ed was actively involved with the UAW retiree’s and Knights of Columbus.
Ed was preceded in death in 2017 by his wife Marge. Ed is survived by his son Greg and his wife Keli, their children Tommy, Drake, Shane, Gage, Meagan, Haley, his daughter Lori Gerick, her children Mikayla, Brenton, and Samuel. Ed also has 3 Great Grandchildren.
Edward is now reunited with his siblings Leonard, Walter, Benny, Raymond, Julia, Betty & Kate.
In lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations to Adventist Health Hospice Care who provided impeccable service and care during his final days.
SERVICES
A celebration of life with a catholic mass will be held on April 29th,2025 at 10:00am at St Anne’s church in Lodi, CA. A special viewing will be held for friends and family on April 28th, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm at Cherokee Memorial, located at 14165 Beckman Rd in Lodi, Ca 95240. A rosary will be held at 6:00pm on April 28th.
