February 28, 1940 - August 29, 2018
Cherokee Memorial is honored to serve the Knott family.
Shirley Andrews was born February 28, 194o to Jasper Andrews and Louvenia Andrews (Williams) in Robersonville, North Carolina. She was the youngest sister of six children.
Shirley attended East End High School in Robersonville, North Carolina, where she enjoyed sports such as Track and Field, and enjoyed the academic atmosphere of learning. After high school, Shirley attended Durham Business College, studying Business and receiving certifications for her secretarial skills.
Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Roberson Missionary Baptist Church. She faithfully served in varying groups and auxiliaries.
Shirley married Woodrow Knott, Jr. on March 26, 1967 and enjoyed 50 years of marriage together, before he passed away, just 7 months ago. Their marriage union was blessed with two children. Initially they lived in Fresno, California before moving to Stockton, California for the past 45 years and where they raised their two kids.
While living in Fresno, Shirley worked for the Internal Revenue Service. In 1973, when the family decided to move to Stockton, Shirley continued to work for the IRS. And she also worked for the Department of the Navy as an executive secretary, before retiring early to care of her son who was involved in a serious automobile accident.
Shirley desired to be obedient to the Lord and raised her children to admonish the Lord. She served in Sunday School as a teacher at Emmanuel Baptist Church of Stockton, California. And later when her late husband “Chuck” was called to ministry as an assistant pastor, she faithfully followed him to join and serve True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, California.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father and mother, two sisters and one brother (Carrie, Hazel, and Russell). She leaves to cherish her memory her children, daughter Melanie D. Knott and son Kevin D. Knott both of Stockton; also her siblings Vernell Burns of Robersonville, North Carolina, and Mary Martin of Baltimore, Maryland. Shirley also has many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Shirley passed from this life on August 29, 2018. She was a faithful wife, being called the “Rock of Gibraltar” by her late husband, amazing mother, loving sister, and wonderful friend, dearly loved in so many ways. She leaves a legacy of service, dedication and love.
She will truly be missed.
