December 30, 1943 - November 16, 2022
Dwight D. Mitchell – Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed on to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, November 16, 2022; he finished the race and kept his faith, and now he celebrates at the feet of Jesus.
Born in Modesto, California on December 30, 1943 to Nina and Wesley Mitchell, Dwight was a long-time resident of Stockton, California. After graduating from Stagg High School in 1961, Dwight and his father began working in concrete and then in 1967, they founded Mitchell’s Concrete Company where for the bulk of his life Dwight continued his career path earning his contractors license and partnering in a variety of entrepreneurial pursuits. In 2006, he and his wife moved to Valley Springs where he continued to work in the construction field until only recently when retirement finally beckoned him to relax and enjoy life.
Were he here today, Dwight would likely tell you how lucky he was; he would focus God’s blessings and relate that with Laura, his wife of sixty years and their family by his side, his cup was full. Dwight always lived life to the fullest, whether he was working, playing, or serving. An avid water skier, on the weekends in his younger years he could be found out on the lake with his family and then later in life a day of fishing provided immense pleasure. He loved his family barbeques and holiday dinners, he found immense joy in regaling the children with his Donald Duck impressions. In recent years, he and his wife enjoyed numerous trips, including a mission trip to India with his church group giving him the opportunity to do one of the things he loved most – share the love of Jesus with others. A devoted Christian and church member, Dwight faithfully served on the deacon boards of Evangel Assembly of God of Stockton, Lakeview Assembly of God in Stockton, and Valley Christian Center of Valley Springs. He was always ready to provide a helping hand and a prayer, and more than anything he loved his heavenly father.
Dwight is preceded in death by his mother, Nina Mitchell and his father Wesley Mitchell, both of his sisters Nelda Lang and Tersia Furgisun. Dwight is survived by his wife Laura Mitchell, his son Bryan Mitchell, and his grandson James of Valley Springs, his daughter Debbie Mitchell of Jackson, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Viewing for Dwight will take place on Friday November 25, 2022 from 12:00pm – 7:00pm in the Vineyard Chapel visitation rooms at Cherokee Memorial Park, 14165 Beckman Rd in Lodi California.
Dwight’s Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday December 1, 2022 at 1:00pm at Valley Christian Center, 2475 Silver Rapids Rd in Valley Springs, California with a luncheon to follow.
