Albert Frank RicaApril 17, 1931 – December 15, 2015 Al lost his courageous battle with cancer and died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on 12/15/15. Al was born in Stockton to Frank and Bruna Rica. He served in the Air Force after graduating from Stockton High School. He later worked for Thermovac Incwhere he was active in the introduction and growth of 55 gal lined steel drums as sterile shipping containersfor concentrated products for the Canning Industry. In 1966 he and partner Lloyd Hay formed FranRica Inc, named in memory of Al’s late father. A key part of the new company’s early product line was a simplified aseptic Drum Filling system conceived by Al’s father. Valley Tomato Products in Stockton was the first of 14 tomato processing plants the company would have either a complete or a majorrole in designing. A full line of aseptic process and evaporation systems weredeveloped and shipped around the world. Eventually the steel 55 gal drum gave way to less expensive and lower weight plastic containers. A patented improvement to the bag gave birth to the FranRica Bag Filler for 300 gal bag-in-box and 55 gal bag-in drum. Soon nearly all the tomato paste in California, and many spots around the world, was being packed in FranRica bag fillers, as dominating as the 55 gal steel Drum Filler before it. In 1998 the California League of Food Processors presented their Distinguished Service Award to the FranRica founders. The name Al Rica was known everywhere in the world where tomatoes were processed. Al is survived by wife of 52 years Jan, Brother Richard(Jean), daughters Debbie(Wayne), Poppy(Mario) and Cindy.Grand children Jessie, Dorie, Janice (Alex), Joseph (Maria) and Christopher. Betty Elinor Murphy

Betty Elinor Murphy Betty passed away peacefully on December 10, 2015. She was born in Ione, California on March 17, 1920 to Ila Silbole and Jack Leonesio. She is survived by her son Sam Matranga (Yoli), stepdaughters, Sharon Garibaldi, Corie Coleman, and Marilyn Lewis, stepsons, Brandon Murphy and David Murphy, granddaughters, Lisa Matranga, Kelli Ann Gai, Tara Ransfer, Andrea Murphy-Lawton; grandsons Eric Chaney, Todd Garibaldi, Kaleb Lewis, Aaron Murphy, Mathew Murphy, Dennis Murphy and many wonderful great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Eugene Murphy, stepdaughter, Melanie Sue Bowers and grandsons, Mark and Frank Matranga and Ryan Murphy preceded her in death.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Stockton retiring from Pacific Bell after 30 years of service as an office supervisor. She enjoyed connecting with people through many activities. She was a Pink Lady for 30 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary; she was a member of the Lodi Widow Persons Association, the Morada Art & Garden Club and the Philomathean Club.

Mary Margaret Thompson

Mary Margaret "Peggy" Thompson, 53, of Acampo, CA, passed away December 10, 2015 after a battle with colon cancer, in the presence of family and loved ones. Peggy was a 1980 graduate of Galt Hight School and went on to earn her LVN from Sacramento City College, where she won the "Most Spirited" award in her class. She worked 35 years at the Golden Living Center in Galt, CA and also spent time volunteering for Children's Dream Works and participating in Relay for Life. Peggy dedicated her free time to completing her "bucket list", which included kayaking, zip-lining, hot air ballooning, pulling pranks on friends and being an "excellent golfer".

Peggy is survived by her husband of 31 years Russell "Rusty" Thompson, daughters Jacquie Nunez (Benny), and Tabatha Thompson (Whitney), two grandchildren Anthony and Azalea Nunez, siblings Howard Garner (Marci), Linda Garner, Michelle Anderson, Jayda Davis (Charlie), Ed Machado, Joe Machado, Julie Greenhalgh (Carl), Tony Machado, Melodee Machado (Greg Seifert) and BFFs Lisa Pollard-Lagomarsino and Teresa O'Bryan.

Aurelia “Lola” Novillos, 86, of Stockton, California passed away on December 3, 2015 at UC Davis, Sacramento, California.                                                                  Aurelia was born on December 7, 1928 in Manaoag, Pangasinan, Philippines to Severino and Arcadia Novillos.In 1979, Aurelia moved to Tamuning, Guam, USA, to live alongside her family. In 2000, she moved to Stockton, California, with the youngest of her children to watch her family grow. She is survived by her two elder daughters Virginia Solidum and Emily Cervera and her two sons Arthur Itliong Jr. and Eddie Itliong. She has thirteen grandchildren: Mary Joyce, Kristina, Maybelle, Victor, Jacklord, Michelle, JayR, Marcjay, Melanie, Julianne, Jasmine, Jessa, and Jessica, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

William Carl Dominik

William Carl Dominik, 90, passed away November 6, 2015. He was born in Lansing, Michigan, June 12, 1925, the son of Mary and Frank Dominik, immigrants from Moravia, and the youngest of three children. Joining his father in local polka and dance bands while in junior high school, he played the drums and saxophone before settling in with the clarinet. While still in high school, he also repaired instruments and taught clarinet lessons.

After graduating from high school a semester early in order that he might complete one semester of college before his eighteenth birthday, he was drafted into the Army Airforces during World War II, initially as a clarinetist. When personnel were needed for other positions, he repaired airplanes and served in an office on the base in Prestwick, Scotland. When the war ended, he resumed his studies, earning a Bachelor of Music degree at Michigan State College, where he also taught clarinet. He went on to teach at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, earn a Master of Music degree at the University of Southern California, teach high school, give private music lessons, and work on airplanes for Douglas Aircraft Company.

After completing his master’s degree, he taught at Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College, the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and Texas A & M University in Kingsville, Texas, before returning to USC to earn his Doctor of Music degree while teaching at California State College at Los Angeles and giving private lessons, as well as teaching ESL part-time at an adult education school in Los Angeles. His clarinet and music training included study with Clark Brody, Robert Marcellus, Kalman Bloch, Joseph Siniscalchi, and Keith Stein. He played in various orchestras, including at Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood in Massachusetts, and appeared as a soloist, clinician, and adjudicator in Midwestern and Western states.

William joined the Conservatory of Music faculty at the University of the Pacific in 1967 as a clarinet and chamber music professor, and served on numerous conservatory and campus-wide committees over the years, including the Conservatory and University Faculty Councils, the University Academic Regulations Committee, and several search and evaluation committees. Upon his retirement, he received the university’s Order of the Pacific and the award of Professor Emeritus.

He was a member of a number of professional organizations, including Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Tau Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, the Music Educators National Conference, and the International Clarinet Society, serving as the California State Chair for many years. In addition, he was a member of the Czechoslovak Society of America Fraternal Life.

William traveled extensively with his wife and family throughout Europe, the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand, enjoying concerts and museums, studying clarinet teaching, and researching clarinet and chamber music on his sabbaticals. He also enjoyed sailing, hiking, kayaking, history, science, photography, painting, printmaking, and ceramics, continuing to explore new activities and learning about new fields of study.

He is survived by his son William John Dominik, daughter Jane Kathryn Dominik, grandchildren Rebecca Ingram, Frank Dominik, and Laura Dominik, and great granddaughter Katherine. He was pre-deceased by Shirley Anne Dominik, his wife of nearly sixty-two years, elder son Carl James Dominik of Victorville, and grandchildren Tristan and Chantelle Celewych Dominik.

SERVICES

A memorial will be held December 5 at 2 p.m. at Morris Chapel at the University of the Pacific, followed by a reception in the Regents’ Room.

Bonnie Joan Schumacher, 82, of Lodi, passed away November 20, 2015. Born March 19, 1933 in Stuart, Nebraska, Joan attended Galt High School, and later attended Pacific Union College and La Sierra College, earning her Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education. She taught public school in Southern California and Los Angeles for 10 years. Joan met her husband to be, Weldon Schumacher, M.D. in 1957 and was inspired to become a nurse, working for him at his practice. She had a special way of amusing the patients so much that sometimes they wanted to hear her stories more than see the doctor. Joan will be missed by her husband, Weldon Schumacher, M.D., and their daughter, Cindy. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kelsi Ward and Brian Laughlin, and her sister, Connie Salas.

Valentine Albert Chaban

Valentine “Val” Albert Chaban Valentine “Val” Albert Chaban 82, of Stockton, passed away November 7, 2015. Born in Wisconsin on February 14, 1933, Val proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, graduating from the Spartan School of Aeronautics, and logged over 5400 flight hours during his career. He was awarded the United States of America Air Medal for Meritorious Service in Aerial Flight. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Val selected Stockton, CA to call home and raise his family, and enjoyed a second career with San Joaquin County for 20 years. Upon his 2nd retirement in 1993, he volunteered his time by serving on and later leading, the Honor Guard for Karl Ross Post #16 honoring the fallen veterans by bringing comfort to their families with a flag ceremony and presentation. Val was personally involved in over 2000 veteran memorial services. He was also a member of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.Val will be missed by his children, Valentine Chaban, Andrew Chaban, Caron Lujan (Phil), Linda Guinn (Butch), Lorrie McCann (Martin), Bronwyn Garrett, John Garrett (Kelly), William Garrett (Denise), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his loyal companion and little buddy, Alfie. Val is preceded in death by his wife, Walda L. Chaban, siblings, William Chaban and Florence Richter, and parents, William and Margaretha Chaban. Michael Lynn Jones

Michael Lynn Jones, 57, passed away November 7, 2015 at home in Stockton, CA. Mike (M.L.) was a lifelong resident of Stockton. He had many accomplishments he was very proud of, including a 26 year career with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department where he retired in December 2014 as a Lieutenant. His stint with the Sheriff’s Office covered patrol of his home county, serving the county in Superior Court, and several years as a detective, where he was selected as Officer of the Year in February 2004 while investigating child abuse crimes. Mike was truly proud of his work with the Sheriff’s Department and his family and coworkers would describe him as a mentor within the law enforcement community.M.L. had a saucy sense of humor and could make people laugh in an instant. Mike also found happiness in weekend naps, fishing, spending time with his wife Stacey, and enjoying his daughters and spoiling his first grandchild. He was an avid fan of anything sports related, and was especially devoted to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Mike is survived by his wife, Stacey Jones, daughters Jocelyn Andersen (Scott) of Tualatin, OR, Mallory Jones, stepsons Reagan and Logan Wuelfing, his granddaughter, Avery Andersen, and his brother Dennis Jones.  He is also is survived by nephew Bobby A. Jones and family, and nieces Kelene Robinson and Jessica Jones their families. M.L. had many brothers and sisters in law and was an uncle to their wonderful children. Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert Jones and Jewell Stringer, his stepfather, Billy Stringer, his brother Bobby E. Jones, and his sister Donna Jones.

Guadalupe T. DeLaCruz

Guadalupe T DeLaCruz was born Guadalupe Tamez on May 31, 1931 to Francisco and Rosa Torres Tamez, in General Teran, Nuevo Leon Mexico. At age nine her mother passed away. Her father, Francisco later married Cruz Ruiz who raised Guadalupe and her sisters Antonia and Maria and brother Olegario as her own, along her new brothers and sisters ; Teresa, Felicitas (Fela), Blanca, Francisca (Francis), Eliazar (Eli), Francisco, and Irene. Olegario, Maria and Francisco preceded her death.

Guadalupe married Vicente DeLaCruz on October 29, 1949. She and Vicente had eight children, two of which preceded her in death, Juanita and Francisco. Her surviving children, Guadalupe (Lupe), Rosa, Vicente, Salvador, Juanita and Jose Luis. With the exception of Vicente who lives in Edinburgh, Texas, all the siblings live locally in San Joaquin County. Besides Her Surviving Siblings and Children Guadalupe is survived by 24 Grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Guadalupe and Vicente immigrated to the United States in 1953. They migrated with the crops and seasons from California to Idaho for a few years befor settling in Merced County in 1956. They moved to San Joaquin County in 1962, to be close to her family who lived in Acampo. Guadalupe was a devoted wife and mother. She also worked in agriculture and local canneries. After working over 15 years at Pacific Coast Producers in Lodi, she retired from there and Teamster local 601 in November 1988.

Guadalupe was passionate about life, gardening, needlework and animals. She also loved to play Bingo and often visited nearby casinos. She had great sense of humor was very loyal to friends and family. To her many friends and neighbors she was known as Dona Lupita. She will be dearly missed by all family and friends.

Oliver Noel Hunt

April 20, 1932 – October 26, 2015 Oliver Noel Hunt passed away on October 26 with family by his side at the age of 83. Oliver was the third child born to Laura and Noel Hunt in Reamsville, Kansas on April 20, 1932. The family relocated to Stockton in 1938 where he attended Stockton High and Stockton College. Oliver proudly served his country as a US Army Paratrooper from 1957-1959. After returning to Stockton, he worked as a self employed Electrical Contractor and enjoyed spending time with his large family and many friends. He loved to go on RV road trips and attend weekly Tuesday morning breakfast with his siblings and their families. The annual Hunt Picnic was a highlight each year, where Oliver was known as the keeper of the family tree. He and Rosie have been active members of the East Main Street Church of Christ for 48 years. Oliver is survived by Rosie Hunt, his loving wife of 48 years and their children, David Hunt Sr., Debbie Bachle, Kathi Pettit and Liz Rios. He will be missed by his grandchildren David Jr., Paul, Jason, Sarah, Melissa, Mandi, Brandi, Brian and Michael and 12 great grandchildren. Brother Marshall Hunt, sisters Esther Caldwell and Norma Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, sister Val Jean Clark and son Randy Cobb.

Clarence Vinton Taylor

Clarence Vinton TaylorClarence V. Taylor – Born September 21, 1916, in Westfield, Iowa.  Passed away October 24, 2015 at the age of 99, at Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital after a brief illness.  He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Myrtie Bowen Taylor, all eight of his brothers, Ed, Ernie, Floyd, Howard, Owen, Nathaniel, Paul, and Bernard; and all five of his sisters, Mable Shattuck, May Helm, Julia Lisle, Betty Banderob, and Ruth Reynolds.  Clarence never married and is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family. Clarence has been a resident of California since 1932 and is a graduate of Red Bluff High School.  He was a loving son, brother, and uncle, and was always helpful to others. Clarence volunteered for service in the U.S. Army in December, 1941.  Following communications training in North Carolina, he served in England.  His unit was transferred to the newly formed United States Air Force and supplied support to ground troops in North Africa, and bomber support during the invasion and eventual occupation of Sicily and Italy. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1945. Upon returning home to Lodi, he and his brother, Bernard, operated a dairy farm until 1957.  Clarence then joined with Rudy Tarditi in a variety of trucking ventures, finally incorporating as T&T Trucking, Inc. in 1965.  They specialized in bottom dump trucks hauling a special type of sand for the glass industry.  In 1994 Clarence sold his share of the business to his partner’s son, Terry, and retired.

Glenn A. Biddy

Glenn A. Biddy11/26/1925- 10/22/2015 Glenn Austin Biddy passed away on October 22, 2015 at the age of 89 from a year long battle with cancer. He was born in La Junta, Colorado on November 26, 1925 to Amos and Lucy Biddy. The family traveled to California and settled in Cutler. Upon high school graduation, Glenn enlisted in the Army and served in the Pacific, in the Battle of Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. His interest in veteran’s issues was life long and he was a member of American Legion Post 22 and the VFW. He was also a member of the Okinawa Veterans breakfast club. Glenn retired from Unisys Corporation in 1986 after 38 years as a computer technician. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing golf. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Liann, one brother, two sons, one daughter, five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.

Lester Davis

Lester Davis, 85, of Stockton passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015. He was born April 27, 1930, in Wolf, Oklahoma. Lester was first and foremost a devoted husband to his wife, Sybil Davis, and loving father to their seven children. He was a favorite uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Lester was widely respected by many for his never-ending selfless generosity. Lester is survived by his children: Floyd Davis (Myrna), Twana Davis, Detrie Smith (Matthias), Shagay Anselment (Tim), Delene Wade (Josiah), and Traci Williams (Justin).

Grandchildren: Randi Carlson, Sunshine Davis, Floyd Davis Jr., Syndi Schon

Great Grandchildren: Grace Schulz, Olyvia and Lilly Schon, Derrick and Leslie Carlson, Mason, Cash and Isaiah Davis.

Alvin Tyrone Livingston

March 12, 1959 - October 12, 2015 Alvin T. Livingston of Stockton CA, passed away peacefully in his sleep, with his wife and son by his side, on October 12, 2015.

Although born in Nashville Tennessee, Alvin lived in Stockton CA, for over 50 years.

Alvin was so blessed with a God Given talent and love for music, he played the drums, piano and guitar. Music was a part of his daily life, and brought joy and peace to his soul.

Alvin was an incredible husband and father, so rich in heart and character. His care-free spirit, laughter and love of life were simply contagious. His quick-witted nature and jokes put a smile on the faces of all those around him.

Alvin was endlessly loving and protective of his family, and was the proudest father to his son, Justin.

His vivacious character, laughter and joy will live in our hearts and souls forevermore, and he will be missed and cherished beyond words.

Alvin is survived by his wife of almost 23 years, Lori Livingston and son Justin Livingston.

Also brothers: Edgar Livingston (of Washington,) Greg Livingston (of Reno,) Michael Livingston (of Los Angeles,) Steven Livingston and  Anthoney Livingston (both of Sacramento) and sister: Janet Livingston (of Las Vegas) Close friends: Orlando San Juan and John Beard (both of Stockton), and Stephen Pierce (of Virginia)

Charles Douglass Spurlock

Charles "Charlie" Douglass Spurlock69 years young, passed peacefully in Stockton California on October 10th, 2015 Born September 13th, 1946 in Merced California to Doris Jane Spurlock (Loughmiller) and Charles Estle Spurlock. Charlie attended Le Grand High School & Merced Junior College He grew up in Planada California where he met and married the love of his life Serepia 'Sarah' Ramos. He was a wonderful father of four daughters, a life long learner and avid reader; a Christian who was active in Cursillo, loved baking, cooking, gardening, model trains and his cat ‘Squeaky’. Survived by his loving wife of 45 years Sarah; daughters Sheri Witt (Tom) of Stockton, Stephanie Taylor (Nevin) of Stafford VA, Stacey Jones (Michael) of Stockton, and Shaina Marquez (Roberto) of Stockton; grandchildren Logan, Ashlyne, Kyron, Aidan, Reagan, Brynn,Trent, Roberto Jr and step-grandchildren Jocelyn, Mallory & Tatiana; step-great-granddaughter Avery; siblings Janie Drum of Atwater, Barbara Jo Dysart of Le Grand and Dennis Spurlock of Los Banos as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday October 22nd at the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park hwy 99 ar E. Harney Lane in Lodi. Daniel Ralph Corlett

Daniel R. Corlett, 77, of Lodi, passed away October 8, 2015. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1938, Daniel served in the US Navy before starting his career with Pinkerton Foundry in Lodi. He worked for them for over 47 years. Daniel loved the outdoors, and especially loved fixing things, making sure they were in “ship shape”. Daniel will be missed by his children, Daniel S. Corlett and Janet Austin, and grandchildren, Cameron, Katie, Darren, Patrick, and Allan. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, Christopher, Natalee, Abigail, and Noah. His beloved wife, Patricia, precedes him in death.

Gregory Perez, 87, of Woodbridge, passed away October 7, 2015 after a long illness. Born August 24, 1928 in Mountain View, California to John and Dominga Perez, Gregory worked in law enforcement and retired from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office as an investigator. He enjoyed baseball, golf, gardening, his family, and his doxie, Missy. Greg leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Carlotta Hauschildt Perez, and their children, Craig (Debra) Perez of Modesto, and Lynette (Chris) Perry of Orangevale. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Gregory, Craig and Todd Perry, and his sister, Lillian (Donald) Garcia of Tracy, brother Edward (Carmen) Perez of Tracy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
